A graduate of Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Samuel Thompson is a nationally recognized soloist,

chamber musician, orchestral musician and interdisciplinary collaborator.   

Mr. Thompson has taught in many capacities ranging from group lessons, private instruction,

orchestral coaching and chamber music coaching to students ranging from beginners to

advanced high school students, university and conservatory undergraduates and adult amateurs.   

In May 2017, Mr. Thompson traveled to Havana, Cuba, where he gave master classes in conjunction with 

ISA-Universidad de las Artes and the Lyceum Mozartiana de la Habana, and most recently taught during the

Four Strings Academy Summer Virtual Summer Program.   

Active in regional educational programs, Samuel has served as an adjudicator for regional Solo and Ensemble Festivals, prepared both junior and senior high school orchestras for annual assessments.   


In addition to maintaining a private studio, Samuel has taught for the Bridges Program in Baltimore, 

Baltimore Talent Education Center, BSO OrchKids, Vermont Music and Arts Center and the DC Youth Orchestra Program.
In 2019 Samuel assumed the position of Program Director for the Bridges Program.

Over the past four years, Samuel's students have earned significant regional success, including:

Successful audition for the Northern Virginia District Eleven Junior District Orchestra (2016)
Superior and Excellent Ratings at the Virginia Music Educators Association District Solo and Ensemble Festival (2016)

Superior Ratings at the Maryland Music Educators Association State Solo and Ensemble Festival (2015-16)

Superior and Excellent Ratings at the Maryland Music Educations Association District Solo and Ensemble Festival (2015-16)

Acceptance into the Harford Youth Orchestra (2014-15)

Acceptance into the Baltimore County All-County Orchestra (2013)
